Harrison Butler Englyn design built by the KOK yard, Netherlands in 1934. This boat is actually an extended Englyn design, slightly larger in all dimensions.

Almonde was commissioned, in 1934, as a present for the retiring Captain of the Dutch Royal Yacht, the Piet Hein. Her name has nothing to do with nuts; she's actually named after the 17th century Dutch Admiral, Philips van Almonde. There's a lavish memorial to him in Saint Catherine's church in Brielle, Rotterdam. It is said that the children of the Dutch royal family learned to sail in her.

Almonde is a slightly enlarged interpretation of Harrison Butler's Englyn design, built in Holland by the KOK yard who planked and decked her with best Moulmein teak. She has 3 berths and a deep sail bin where there was once a 4th berth. And, exceptionally for a yacht of her age, comfortable heads in their own mini cabin up forward. As a consequence of being built by barge builders, all her fittings and scantlings are rather more substantial than is really necessary, but it does make her exceptionally strong.

Inevitably, she has undergone restoration over the years; her deck is now teak laid on marine ply, while the cutter rig, although renewed, is very close to the original with the exception of rolling headsail fitted in 2018. Most important is the new lead keel, cast and fitted in 2017. The original disappeared in the 1939/45 war only to be replaced with a steel box holding loose lead ingots. It left Almonde significantly under-ballasted. The new keel has brought her back close to the original displacement and ballast ratio.

Used as a successful charter business since being launched in 2009. The business is included with the purchase of the boat and she could continue to work with a new owner running charter trips around the UK, or diversifying and going further afield if desired. The business has a lot of traction and accounts for previous years are available on request. she is also the right size yacht to become a comfortable private cruising boat.

Designed and built by Luke Powell of Working Sail in 2009. Luke Powell pilot cutter Amelie Rose is the sister ship to an earlier boat, ‘Ezra’, and as such, was a proven design with a track record.

Built for the present owner, this 44ft boat has operated as a charter and sail training vessel since her launch through what has been a very successful business.

Since her launch in 2009, she has worked every season and, as such, has benefitted from continual maintenance and inspection to keep her in top fettle and satisfy the MCA commercial coding surveyors. Her Category 2 MCA certificate has recently lapsed but could be reinstated very easily for a new owner.

Her design was chosen as it is a perfect size, combining manageability, space and comfort, giving 10 berths and ample deck space while still being a sailing yacht that can be handled by a small crew.

She became well known after appearing in the BBC programme 'The Hungry Sailors' and has become a common sight in harbours along the south coast and in Brittany, as well as proving her speed at the Pilot Cutter Review in St Mawes.

A very classic yacht for sale in solid condition, capable of continuing her role as a charter vessel or moving to be a comfortable and capable private yacht. Internal and external refit completed summer 2024.

Price is subject to VAT as part of the charter business but this could be reclaimed by a buyer with the right circumstances.

The business is available with the boat and included in the purchase price. Topsail Adventures Ltd has been incorporated since 2006 and full accounts are available to a prospective purchaser.
