Camper & Nicholsons yard were quick to realise the change in yacht construction when it came, and saw the future would be with GRP. They looked to adapt early on and built several designs in the new material, most notably the Nicholson 36. This example was built in 1962, still in the heyday of British wooden yacht building, and is one of their recognisable C&N yacht designs but with a GRP hull. The hull was laid up by Halmatic Ltd, experts in the new material, and finished by Campers with a varnished mahogany superstructure, cockpit and nice classic interior. These boats were raced a lot in the early years and will still provide their owners with exciting classic regatta racing, but are also excellent cruising yachts. Lindy II was the second of Harrison Butlers Davinka designs to be built after his very own yacht Vindilis. Lindy II was built at A.H. Moody & Son and retains her original bermudan yawl rig. With a major in depth professional refit around 2012 she is still in good structural shape. Sensibly priced at £20,000 to reflect the owners circumstances and the need for a quick sale this spring. Built in 1936 to the Davinka design by Dr T. Harrison Butler by A.H. Moody & Son of Swanwick.

This is a sister ship to a yacht built a year earlier called Vindilis, the first of the Davinka design built for Butler himself.

This yacht has retained her original bermudan yawl rig giving her a balanced and attractive sail plan.

Between 2011-2012 the yacht underwent a major refit with Tim Gilmore, a highly respected shipwright with extensive work to the hull, rig and systems. Below is a summary of work done at this time.

A very attractive pedigree yacht from one of our most treasured UK naval architects, a yacht that has been lovingly maintained with considerable investment over the years and offered for sale at a very attractive price.

Wooden Ships Comments on this 40' Bermudan Cruising Ketch

40’ Bermudan ketch designed by Irishman G. O’Brian Kennedy, better known for his popular little sloop the Lymington Slipway.

The keel was laid and the hull built by well known yard Harold Kimber, Somerset in 1964 but the yacht was never completed.

She was finally completed and commissioned by Tideway Marine, Salcombe in 1980 for a Hampshire hotel owner who cruised the boat to the Med and used her for light charter work.

In the present ownership the yacht has undergone some significant refit work, including a new deck in 2015, and has been cruised extensively with trips to the Med, Azores and numerous voyages around the UK and northern European coasts. Much of this has been done single handed proving her as an easily handled and safe yacht even in very severe weather conditions that she experienced.

A very tough and capable yacht that has proved herself in classic regatta events as well as long distance ocean sailing with a well documented refit history.
