Wooden Ships Comments on this Classic Pre-War Motor Yacht

Built by Dixon and Hutchinson of Southampton in 1924 to a design typical of the period, an elegant and fine bodied motor yacht with raised topsides forward and a snug aft cockpit.

Over the years she has been altered and changed to her current configuration with a central wheelhouse, aft cabin and forward accommodation.  She has been an excellent part time live aboard yacht, very comfortable, warm and dry but a change in circumstances for the owner mean the boat has to be sold.

She would make an excellent coastal cruising boat, or indeed for exploring inland waterways with her moderate draft.

Her engine has been rebuilt and is with the boat but not yet fitted in place.

A nice looking pre-war period motor yacht with potential to be a superb cruising yacht for a couple.

Construction

Planked in 1.5” pitch pine all copper rivet fastened to steam bent oak timbers.

Recent work to replace caulking in the garboards and hood ends.

Oak keel and stem.  Stem repaired with new laminated section.

Internal lead trimming ballast of approximately 5 tons.

Laid pine deck, caulked and payed, over a T&G pine sub deck.

Mahogany wheelhouse and butterfly skylight on the foredeck.

Stainless steel stanchions with a mahogany hand rail.

Stainless steel transom hung rudder with wheel steering.

Rig

She has a mast stepped in a tabernacle on the foredeck.  The current mast is a recently built one but the installation is not yet complete.  The stainless standing rigging is in place but not connected up properly.

Machinery

Originally fitted with a centreline main engine and a wing engine.  The wing engine has been removed but the shaft and propeller are still in place.

Ford D 4cyl diesel main engine has been rebuilt and is with the boat but not installed.

2  x 12 volt batteries, recently fitted with a Victron 240 volt charger.

80 gallon steel fuel tank under aft deck.

Accommodation

5 berths including 2 singles in the fore cabin, 1 saloon settee berth and a double in the aft cabin.

Sliding doors into the wheelhouse with helm position to port and settee to starboard with a varnished mahogany table.

Centreline companionway going forward with the galley to port and heads compartment to starboard.

Galley has a Dometic 2 burner gas stove with oven and grill, new in 2018.  Single stainless sink with hot and cold pressurised water and a 12 volt Waeco fridge, new in 2018.

Heads compartment has a Baby Blake sea toilet which discharges directly overboard and a shower with full standing headroom.

Hot water from a gas fired boiler, professionally installed in 2018.

Moving forward into the saloon which is a cosy space with a large wood burning oven and a settee either side.  The port side is large enough to be a berth when needed.  The large wood burner runs a radiator in the aft cabin for added heating, the circulation pump for this needs attention.  Some nice period joinery in the saloon with lockers, side board and nice period fittings.

Bulkhead into the fore cabin with twin V-berths.  Skylight above and access forward into the chain locker.

Steps down from the wheelhouse on the starboard side into the aft cabin with a large double berth on the port side and nice period joinery to starboard.
