Wooden Ships Comments on this 41′ Buchanan Sloop

Designed by Alan Buchanan, design No. 1584, and built by Sutton and Wiggins in 1964.  Sutton and Wiggins were thought of as one of the top yards on the east coast at that time, and although they did not produce a large number of boats, they were all very high quality and expensive builds.

The original and commissioning owner was an engineer who owned a firm called H&M engineering in Kent.  He was obviously heavily involved in the spec and construction of the boat as all the metal work was fabricated by his firm.  This is the reason she has top grade stainless steel floors, tanks and deck gear.  He even designed and manufactured his own sheet winches which are still on the boat today.

Bought by the present owner in 2013, ill health has forced him to put her back up for sale.

She has typical elegant Buchanan lines with long overhangs, pronounced sheer and a well proportioned coach roof.  It seems as if the freeboard is slightly greater than the majority of his boats which gives her more internal volume.

The original build quality of this yacht is second to none with top grade materials used throughout.  Presently she is looking a little sad and will need a thorough cosmetic overhaul but she is a yacht worthy of  the time and money required to get her back into first class condition.
