Designed by Alan Buchanan and built by Sutton and Smith of Essex in 1970. This yard were known for their high quality yachts and this is no exception, evidently built to a high spec for an owner who could afford the best materials of the day.
Built with no ferrous materials, she has bronze floors and keel bolts, lead keel and bronze knees throughout. This list of materials will ensure the boat has a very long service life with minimal maintenance, not being affected by many of the problems associated with other contemporary yachts which had galvanised floors and ferrous keel bolts.
Maintained to a good standard by her diligent owners, the boat is a superb example of British yacht design and boat building from her period. The size also hits a sweet spot, she is big enough to offer excellent headroom, 5 good berths and a nice sized cockpit, however she is small enough to be single handed when required. The boat is very capable of offshore cruising, classic regatta racing or local coastal pottering. A very versatile, attractive and well maintained classic yacht offered for sensible money in ready to go condition.

Construction
Hull
Carvel planked in iroko all copper rivet fastened to steam bent Canadian Rock Elm timbers.
Iroko transom with a transom hung rudder on bronze hangings.
External lead ballast keel fastened with bronze keel bolts. One bolt drawn in 2017 for survey and found in good condition.
Bronze strap floors fastened with copper rivets across the centreline
Decks and Cockpit
Marine plywood decks sheathed externally and finished in deck paint.
Varnished teak covering board, toe rail and capping rail all round. Finished using International Woodskin.
Recessed bronze fairleads in the toe rails with bronze and teak bar cleats.
Stainless steel stanchions all round.
Self draining cockpit with scrubbed laid teak thwarts and cockpit sole. Lockers beneath the aft and port side thwarts. Bridge deck to the companion hatch with mainsheet track across.
Superstructure
Varnished teak coachroof coamings with alloy framed windows. Slight step up to a raised dog house at the aft end. Stripped and varnished with 8 coast of Epifanes 2026.
Sheathed plywood coachroof deck.
Elegant laminated mahogany and cedar supporting knees under the coachroof.
Varnsihed teak sliding hatch garage on the doghouse.
Varnished teak dorade vent boxes with chromed bronze vents.
Rig
Spars
Masthead Bermudan sloop rig on a deck stepped gold anodised alloy mast. Stainless steel deck support takes the heel of the mast with compression posts and structural plywood bulkheads below. The bulkheads are supported by bronze plates through bolted and fastened to the coamings.
Original gold anodised roller reefing boom now converted to slab reefing.
Gold anodised spinnaker pole.
Standing and Running Rigging
Stainless steel standing rigging to internal stainless chain plates new in 2018. Small stainless plates mounted around the chain plates at deck level to help keep a good water tight seal. The chain plates stretch a long way down the hull to spread the rig loads.
Single spreaders with twin lower shrouds. Twin standing backstays to quarter plates.
Removeable inner forestay for storm jib and no.3 jib.
ProFurl roller furling headsail system.
Mainsail sheets to a track across the bridge deck.

Machinery
Engine
Sabb 2HG 18hp twin cylinder diesel engine. Fitted as a reconditioned unit in 2011.
Twin lever controls with a mechanical gearbox to a centreline fixed 2 blade bronze propeller. 5.5 knots cruising speed.
New shaft, shaft coupling and cutlass bearing fitted in 2022. New exhaust manifold fitted in 2019.
Tanks
45 litre stainless steel fuel tank under the cockpit sole. Water separator fuel filter.
100 lite stainless steel water tank under the cabin sole. Removed to inspect and paint bilges in 2024.
Batteries and Electrics
3 x 12 volt batteries for engine start and domestics. Charged from the engine alternator and through a 21w solar panel.
Accommodation
Berths and Headroom
5 berths including a quarter berth, 2 saloon settee berths and 2 single berths in the fore cabin. Infill section in the fore cabin to create a double berth.
Headroom of 1.89m under the doghouse. 1.86m in the saloon.
General Description
Steps down over the engine box into the main cabin. Varnished mahogany tool box infront of the engine box doubles up as the bottom step. Galley to port. Chart desk and quarter berth to starboard.
Chart desk faces forward and lifts to access chart storage space. The end of the quarter berth is used as the chart desk seat. Quarter berth is very long and access is relatively easy, a great berth while on passage if short handed.
Half height white painted bulkheads separate off the main saloon. These have varnished mahogany trim and vertical grab rails
Small step down into the saloon with port and starboard settee berths. Shelf and locker space outboard under the side decks. Full length grab rails on the inside of the coachroof coamings.
Folding saloon table can be lowered to create a large double berth in the saloon. Also doubles as a cockpit table.
Davey Hotpot cast iron cabin heater mounted on the forward bulkhead.
Centreline passageway going forward with heads compartment to starboard and wet locker/storage space to port.
Fore cabin has 2 single V-berth plus an infill section to create a double berth. Forehatch above for ventilation. Anchor locker forward in the bows.
Galley
Plastimo Neptune 2000 2 burner gas stove with oven and grill. Self draining gas locker in the cockpit.
Single stainless steel sink with fresh water from a bronze hand pump and from an electric pressure pump. Manual pump out for the sink.
Top loading cool box compartment, this is not powered but can bee cooled using ice blocks.
Original mahogany joinery with slatted locker doors.
Heads
Jabsco manual sea toilet discharges directly overboard. Curtains come across to give privacy in the heads when required.
