Herreshoff Islander Sloop

Wooden Ships Comments on this Herreshoff Islander Sloop

Herreshoff Islander designed by the Herreshoff office and built by Port Hamble Ltd.  The exact year of build is unknown but production ran from 1953 -1960.

A large number of these boats were built here in the UK but most were shipped to the States so it is not often they are seen in our waters and rarely come up for sale.

Sydney Herreshoff was a successful designer and wanted to produce an easily handled but capable day sailing boat.  They are known to be fast little boats, quite capable and with a small cabin have the option of spending nights aboard.

Weighing only 1.25 tons the Islander can be easily towed on the road for hassle free and cost effective ownership.

This yacht had some major refit work in the previous ownership with new bottom planks, new afromosia floors and throat bolts as well as a new stern post and new keel bolts.  In 2025 the running and standing rigging were replaced and she is professionally maintained each winter in a shed to keep her in good smart condition.

These are very attractive and desirable day boats that offer a lot for the 21’ length.
