Wooden Ships Comments on this Sibbicks Half Rater

Built by the present owner in association with the Boat Building Academy, Lyme Regis, and launched in 2011.  The design is from 1897 by Charles Sibbick and the original boat was built by Sibbicks of Cowes and was exhibited at the Imperial Institute, Kensington before being sold to the Med.  The design, known as a skimming dish half rater, is extreme for a boat of her era, but it shows that the modern fin and skeg yachts were not the first boats to adopt this principle of yacht design.  This boat takes her lines, ethos and inspiration from the original Sibbicks plans but the builders have employed very modern techniques and materials in order to get a very strong, light and long lasting yacht that is easy to sail and maintain.

She comes as a package complete with a single axle road trailer so can be easily trailed behind a family car, plus the design of the rig means the main mast is relatively short, making her easy to rig and sail without the need for engaging the services of a boat yard.  Featured in December 2011 edition of Classic Boat
