Wooden Ships Comments on this 15′ Orkney skiff

Orkney skiff, believed to have been built in 1908 to teach a young local girl to sail.  Bought by the present owner in 1983, she had a refit in the early 1990’s with new frames and planking as necessary.

Complete boat with outboard, oars, rig and road trailer, all in good smart condition with a recent paint job.

She is a very stable boat for her size, easily sailed and a delight to row.  A frequent competitor in Falmouth Classics regatta, she will turn heads and be a delight to own and use for her new owner.

Length                  15′

Clinker planked in larch, copper rivet fastened to steam bent ash frames

Heavy sheer strake and gunnel finished in blue gloss

Three varnished pine thwarts supported by grown knees, each with a rowing position.

Varnished pine slatted sole boards.

Rudder hung on the stern post with galvanised pintles

Standing lug rig on varnished pine mast, boom and lug yard.

Boom fitted with a leathered gooseneck saddle and sheeted to the stern with varnished wooden blocks.

Mainsail and jib in tan terylene.  2 reefing points in the mainsail.

No standing rigging on the mast makes for easy rigging.  Halyards for main and jib fall to belay pins on the forward thwart as support for the mast.
