Wooden Ships Comments on this Iain Oughtred Eun Na Mara

Iain Oughtred Eun Na Mara design built at the Lyme Regis Boat Building College in 1998.

This design is one of Oughtreds slightly larger boats with a cabin and decent size cockpit, intended as a capable cruising boat.

Sold with a good road trailer.  Been used this season for local cruising and regattas in the Falmouth area.  Professional cosmetic refit in 2023.

Construction

3 layers of 3mm sapele cold moulded using epoxy.  Sheathed externally in epoxy glass cloth.

External iron ballast keel.

Twin centreplates, one each side of the hull.  These are raised and lowered with a rope coming through the cockpit bulkhead.

Epoxy sheathed plywood decks and coachroof coamings.  Bronze portlights in the coamings.

Oak rubbing strake all round with a small inset tow rail.

Coachroof deck is laid teak over marine plywood.

Laid teak forehatch.

Stern post hung rudder with a drop plate to allow the boat to take the ground.

Tiller steering is connected to the rudder with a stainless rod passing through a gasket in the stern.

Rig

Gaff yawl on deck stepped douglas fir spars.

Mainmast stepped in tabernacle for easy lowering.

Stainless steel standing rigging to external chain plates.

Sails include jib, staysail, mainsail and mizzen in cream.

Jib fixed to end of the bowsprit with a Wykeham Martin furling system.  New 2023.

Mizzen sheets to bumpkin over the stern

All running rigging leads aft to the cockpit.

Machinery

A well has been constructed in the hull on the starboard quarter so an outboard engine can be fixed in place.

No engine with the sale.

Accommodation

2 settee berths with sitting headroom.

Small joinery space aft on each side to be used as a galley.  No stove fitted but a portable camping gas stove could easily be used.
