Francois Vivier Portzic Dinghy

Wooden ships Comments on this Francois Vivier Portzic Dinghy

Francois Vivier Portzic design, built by Nick Twist in Cornwall in 2006.  Dry stored since 2014 in a secure barn.

The original Portzic plans were created for an English yachtsman who had seen the impressive tenders used by fishing boats in Brittany and wanted something similar as a tender to his traditional yacht.  The are typical ‘cods head/mackerel tail’ shape, terrifically stable and easy to row or scull.

Vivier modified this boat from the original plans to be stronger as she was intended to be kept on a tidal beach.  The construction makes for a very tough little boat, over engineered some would say, but certainly built to last.

She comes with a Bramber road trailer, rig, electric outboard and cover.

A very eye catching little boat in superb condition.

Length                        9’8”

Fairey Marine Duckling

Wooden Ships Comments on this Fairey Marine Duckling

A brand new Fairey Duckling, sold to the late owner by Fairey Marine Ltd as a completed hull with the idea to fit her out for sailing.  This never happened the boat has spent it’s entire life in the roof of the garage.

She appears to be in excellent as new condition.  The hull is complete with thwarts and dagger board casing, but there is no rig, dagger board or rudder.

Complete with all the original plans, instructions and paper work from Fairey Marine Ltd.

A very special little boat as there cannot be another Duckling in this condition unless one was built new at huge expense.

Construction

Cold moulded hull glued with resorcinol in the usual Fairey way.

Mahogany thwarts, gunwhales and knees.

26′ Cabin Boat

Wooden Ships Comments on this 26′ Cabin Boat

Built by Charmans Boatyard of Bembridge in 1965, she would no doubt have been used around the Solent as a comfortable weekend boat.

A sturdy and safe motor yacht with a large aft cockpit, sheltered wheelhouse and simple accommodation forward giving a heads, galley and double berth.  This is perfect for weekend excursions and nights away, with the new aft cockpit cover creating a large sheltered space aft when staying aboard.

She has a brand new Thorneycroft 60hp engine which has only done 40hrs running and has been professionally maintained this year with all new paint and varnish work.

Cornish Rowing Punt

Cornish rowing punt of unknown origin.  Not as fast or light as the racing punts, but with more beam and displacement she is noticeably more stable and therefore a more practical punt.

Owned by a shipwright she has had various new planks and frames very recently and is basically a sound and solid boat.

McNulty were known for their high quality wooden boats, mainly building clinker dinghies and motor launches.  However in the later stages of the business they turned to GRP and built some of their sailing dinghy designs with GRP hulls, finished off with wooden trim to give them a traditional look and feel.

This is a lovely example, well maintained and complete with all over cover, road trailer and launching trolley.

Acorn 12 rowing skiff designed by Iain Oughtred.  Built by the owner and finished in early 2024.

This boat has never been afloat or used, she is in as new condition.  The owner has built numerous Oughtred designs with this method of construction and has a real talent for building and finishing his boats to a high standard.

The Acorn is a beautiful boat to row, well balanced with stunning lines.  Her epoxy plywood construction means she is lightweight and stiff and will require minimal maintenance in the years to come.
