Wooden Ships Comments on this Rock Rainbow Sailing Dinghy

Rock Rainbow sailing dinghy built in Rock, Cornwall in the 1950’s by Kempthorn Lay & Sons.  Thought to be the only surviving example of the fleet, the design was built for the Rock Sailing Club by a local boat builder in the 1950’s for sailing around the Camel Estuary.

The boat is a substantial dinghy with a very full bilge midships giving terrific stability and load carry ability.  The bows are quite fine and the transom has a marked tumblehome making her rather interesting and unlike many other clinker dinghies of her size.

Being a half-decker there is dry storage space under the foredeck and she can take a bit more weather than a completely open dinghy, ideal for the sometimes rough open waters of the Camel Estuary.

Professional refit in current ownership with a new lower section of the transom fitted and some new planks.  Her trailer is in good order with recent new bearings, wheels and tyres and recently completed 700 mile round trip to the Lake District.
