Grand Banks 42 built by American Marine, Singapore in 1971.

Hard chine semi displacement hull with twin Ford Lehman diesels gives good cruising speed enabling the boat cover good distance.

The Grand Banks name has become known for quality no nonsense boats that provide lots of space, comfort and good sea keeping capability.

Some work is required to the superstructure and bulwarks.

Construction

  • Carvel planked in mahogany all bronze fastened to hardwood frames.
  • Structural plywood bulkheads fastened to the frames.
  • Yacht laid teak deck screwed to a marine plywood subdeck.
  • High bulwark all round in solid mahogany with stainless guard rails.
  • Painted plywood superstructure with large aluminium framed windows.
  • Flybridge with recently renovated deck, now finished is a non-slip 2 pack finish.

Machinery

  • 2 x Ford Lehman 6cyl 120hp naturally aspirated diesel engines.  Recently professionally serviced.
  • Borg Warner Velvet Drive hydraulic gearboxes to 1.5” stainless shafts and fixed 3 blade bronze propellers.  12 knots cruising speed.
  • 4 x painted steel fuel tanks in the engine room with total capacity of approximately 1200 litres.
  • 4 x Varta 180ah batteries for domestics and engine starting.  Charged from engine alternators or installed shore power system.  Recently fitted solar panels on aft coachroof with regulator.
  • Mastervolt 500W sinewave inverter.
  • Mastervolt Whisper 3500 diesel generator has been purchased and partly installed in the engine room.
  • Siemens hot water cylinder heated with a 240 volt immersion coil.
  • Stainless steel water tanks aft.

Accommodation

  • 5 berths in 2 separate sleeping cabins.
  • Side entrance doors to the deck saloon/wheelhouse.
  • Saloon area aft with table and seating to starboard.
  • Wood burner fitted on port side.
  • Galley in forward port corner.  Full size Flavel gas oven with 4 burners, 2 ovens and grill.  Single stainless sink with hot and cold pressurised water.  12 volt fridge.
  • Helm position to starboard with all engine controls and navigation gear.  Second helm position on the flybridge.
  • Companion steps to aft cabin with large spacious heads compartment to starboard.  Large double berth on starboard side and single berth to port.
  • Heads has full standing headroom with electric flushing sea toilet, hot shower and hand basin.  Sea toilet discharges directly overboard.
  • Forward cabin has heads compartment to starboard and a twin V-berths with an infill to create a large double.
  • Heads has an electric sea toilet that discharges into a stainless black water tank.  Hand basin with hot running shower.
