Wooden Ships Comments on this Bermudan cutter classic dayboat

A classic 1/2  decked sailing dayboat,  with an auxiliary inboard engine.   Centreplate enables her to take the ground and she has beaching legs.   In present ownership since 1978 and immaculately  maintained, she is an eye-catching,  excellent day sailer for a family and comes with a launching/winter storage trailer.

Hull

Clinker planked in Elm on oak frames, copper fastened.   Long keel, transom stern.  Transom renewed 2006 by J Mann of Galmpton,   Transom hung rudder.  Steel centre plate pivoting on external bolt.   Plate case and timbers renewed by Butler & Co 2009 and a new keel band fitted.   Cast iron ballast pig aft, lead pigs fwd.

Decks

Painted ply deck.

Centre thwart, side seats and stern bench all varnished.   Varnished coamings and rubbing strake.  Painted bottom boards.   Stern and bow lockers with varnished doors.

 

 

Rig    Bermudan cutter

Varnished mast and spars,  fixed bowsprit.   Keel stepped mast with a mast band and cross brace aft of the forward locker.  This brace also acts as a pin rail.

Stainless steel 3mm rigging wire, bronze external chain plates.

 

Roller reefing on main boom with a horse over the tiller.   Headsails sheet through cars on the side decks.

 

Sails

Mainsail, staysail and jib, in good condition.   2 additional jibs + small roller jib on Wykeham Martin gear.

 

Machinery

Engine

Stuart Turner P5M auxiliary inboard petrol engine.  1948,  fully rebuilt 1996 including new cylinder, piston and all bearings.   Impulse magneto with hand start.  Engine toolkit.

The engine is in excellent condition and has been removed from the boat every winter and garage stored.   Mahogany varnished engine box.

 

Batteries  12v battery in stern locker,  charged ashore.

 

Tanks         3 gallon fuel tank under the foredeck.

Purpose built launching trailer which doubles as a winter storage cradle.  The front crossbar can be removed to drop the centreplate.   The trailer can be used for short haul road transport but is not fitted with brakes.
