Wooden Ships Comments on this Herreshoff Islander

Herreshoff Islander designed by the Herreshoff office and built by Port Hamble Ltd in 1953.  A large number of these boats were built here in the UK but most were shipped to the States so it is not common to see one of these attractive day boats over here.

Sydney Herreshoff was a successful designer and wanted to produce an easily handled but capable day sailing boat.  They are known to be fast little boats, quite capable and with a small cabin have the option of spending nights aboard.

Weighing only 1.25 tons the Islander can be easily towed on the road for hassle free and cost effective ownership.
