In 2007 the Falmouth Marine School built 4 boats as a training exercise based on the traditional Cornish designs for small inshore fishing boats.

Before the Great Gale at the end of the 19th century destroyed so many of the West Country fishing boats most small working boats used the lug rig for it’s simplicity, ease of handling and low cost. Government grants to the fishing industry promoted the new gaff rig with which we are so familiar today.

Carvel planked in larch, copper fastened to oak frames.
