A fast comfortable cruiser/racer yacht from the drawing board of Alan Buchanan, designed as the development of the Vashti class. She had a very successful early racing career and has since done extended cruising from Spain to Scotland. New deck in 2005. keel bolts, floors and fastenings done. The Merle gives the feel of a very competent little yacht with some interesting features typical of John Illingworth, one of this country’s most experienced off-shore yacht racers. Designed for the Quarter Ton Cup, this is the last example to have been built, the first of which campaigned very succesfully. Wide in the beam with many design features typical of the period where naval architecture was moving forward away from the 'classic' lines of years gone by. A very capable little yacht in sound condition but needing a gentle refit after being out of commision for a couple of seasons.
