Wooden Ships Comments on this Falmouth Quay Punt Tender

Believed to have been built in Fowey in the 1930’s.  It is thought she was a working tender to a Falmouth Quay Punt, the local working boats.

Bought by the present owner as a near wreck that had been abandoned for many years.  Rebuilt to a good standard with 6 new planks and 50% new frames.

Fitted with a standing lug rig on a hollow mast, she is an elegant boat that is a joy to row or sail.

Now in very sound condition, she comes with the as new rig and a road trailer.

A very special boat with huge historical significance in the Falmouth area.

Construction

Carvel planked in pitch pine on oak frames, all copper rivet fastened.

Elm centreline and mahogany transom.

6 planks replaced by present owner using spruce.  50% of frames replaced in oak.

Thwarts and knees all new in present ownership

Solid wooden lifting blade rudder with varnished oak tiller.

Painted sole boards.  Adjustable foot stretcher for rowing.

 

 

Rig

Standing lug rig on a keel stepped hollow douglas fir mast finished in varnish.

Varnished douglas fir lug yard.

Loose fotted mainsail, sheets to horns on the quarter in the traditional manner.

Varnished ash blocks and traditional English Braids 3 strand running rigging.

Halyard falls come to bronze belay pins on the thwart by the mast.

Mainsail in Bainbridge classic cream with hand stitched bolt ropes and cringles.
