Wooden Ships Comments on this Moorman Bros Clinker Rowing Dinghy
Built by Isle of Wight boat builder Peter Moorman of Moorman Bros, Isle of Wight, in 1966. She was commissioned by and built for an uncle of the present owner, the original purchase invoice is still with the boat showing a total of £115 including extras of the side benches and the foredeck.
Designed as a stable and safe fishing dinghy for use around the Isle of Wight, she has always been kept and used on the island.
Kept undercover and launched when used, she seems to be in very nice condition and is a complete package with launching trolley, engine and cover.

Wooden Ships Comments on this Solent Scow
Solent Scow sailing dinghy built by Adrian Stone on the Isle of Wight in 1989.
Recent professional refurbishment including all new alloy spars and a brand new sail.
The Solent Scow is said to have been developed in Edwardian times when local yachtsman Captain Nicholson found his blunt nose pram dinghy not suitable for the choppy waters of the Solent. In 1912 he instructed local boat builder Dan Bran to build a dinghy that was in effect a small pram with a conventional stem. The design took off in the 1920’s and 1930’s with fleets all around the Solent, all with slight variations. They were built in their hundreds by various yards around the Solent including Berthons.
In late years the design was built in GRP and from the mid 1980’s another slightly altered design came out, the brain child of boat builder John Claridge, which has seen the Scow become a popular racing fleet in several harbours around the Solent to this day.
This particular boat is unusual as she is one of the later boats but built from wood rather than GRP. Probably commissioned by an individual who wanted to race with the scows but did not want a GRP boat, she is a particularly nice example in very nice condition. She benefits from the modern Scow rig with alloy spars and an as new sail from Sanders Sails, plus she has the modern Scow rudder and centreboard design.
The boat was given a recent refit with a complete new rig, sails and mast step. The hull was stripped externally to bare wood and re-varnished and the inside of the hull sanded back and re-varnished.

Wooden Ships Comments on this Mears of Seaton Clinker Motor Launch
Built by Paul Mears of Seaton in 2008 to a traditional Beer lugger design. The Beer luggers have been used as local fishing boats for many years, launched and retrieved from the beach with large winches and wooden rollers. Because of this they are built very robustly and have a very conspicuous shape to the hull with high freeboard, a sharp turn to the bilge for stability and small bilge keels to keep them upright on the beach.
Originally built with a lug yawl rig. The rig was removed by the present owner and she has been used simply as an open motor launch, but all the fittings are in place to take a rig if that was desired.
This is a very stable and spacious boat for her size, capable of coastal passages and with space for a good number of people.

Wooden ships Comments on this 25′ Motor Launch
Believed to have been built on the Clyde in 1910 as a steam powered motor launch.
She has since had a Bukh diesel engine fitted. This is a very fine elegant boat in need fo some refit work before being used. There is a full and detailed survey carried out in April 2022 that details the exact condition and what work is required.
The boat comes with an excellent SBS road trailer that is ready to be towed away.
She would make a fine project for someone to return to steam power, or simply use her with the existing diesel engine.

Wooden Ships Comments on this 21′ Sport Fishing Boat
21’ Sport Fishing Boat to an American design built by Dartmouth boat builders B. & A. Pomeroy.
This is a demonstration model aimed at securing orders for new builds to the same design.
Built to an American design and launched in 2022, this is a demonstration model used by the builders who are offering further builds of the same design, constructed to an owners exact specification.
A new commission would be to exactly the same hull design, but the internal layout, engine and systems could all be specified by the owner to suit their needs.
The design is very interesting with a lot more internal space than any modern RIB, comfortable seating and excellent sea keeping characteristics. The design of the hull makes her a stiff boat, responsive at speed and able to handle rough weather without concern.
Any enquiries for new build boats to this design will be passed to the builders who can discuss your requirements.
Price for a complete boat with engine is £55,000. For a bare boat with no engine but everything else complete the price is £39,000.

Wooden Ships Comments on this 16′ McNulty Sailing Launch
Clinker sailing motor launch built by McNulty Boats in 1995.
In present ownership for 23 years, used extensively around the Solent and some trips further afield.
Very pretty boat with an inboard Beta diesel engine that has been recently serviced. Unusually she has a standing lug rig and sets a decent sized sail. She is not a racing boat and will not sail hard to windward, however with a free wind she will tramp along very nicely. Dagger board fitted for use when sailing.
Comes with an all over cover and road trailer.

Wooden Ships Comments on this Christchurch Coot One Design
Christchurch Coot One Design built in 1937 by Charles Purbrook in Christchurch.
In present ownership for 20 years, she had a major refit around 2008 where most of the bottom planking was replaced.
The Coot was conceived by Charles Purbrook in 1936 who wanted to design and built himself a dinghy. The first boat was bought before she was finished and he was asked to build another. Before long the design took off and Purbrook moved to a yard on the banks of the Avon in Christchurch. The boat became a local one Design and was raced in good numbers in the local area.
These are solid, stable and capable boats with a good amount of internal space. This boat comes with a road trailer and cover. She has been in regular use with a recent week of sailing in Salcombe, Devon.
Length on Deck 14’6”
Beam 5’4”
