20′ Nick Smith Clinker Motor Launch

Wooden Ships Comments on this 20′ Nick Smith Clinker Motor Launch

Clinker motor launch built by Nick Smith of Salcombe in 2004.  Based on the lines of a Salcombe Bass Fishing boat from the 20th century with typical lines of straight stem and elegant sheer line.

Nick Smith has been building and repairing boats since 1980 and has forged a name for himself in recent years building high quality motor launches based on the traditional Salcombe fishing boats.

This boat has been professionally maintained and repaired as necessary and is being sold in smart condition ready for use next summer.  She comes with a good road trailer and all over cover.

A very beautiful looking boat in good condition.

25′ Motor Launch

Wooden ships Comments on this 25′ Motor Launch

Believed to have been built on the Clyde in 1910 as a steam powered motor launch.

She has since had a Bukh diesel engine fitted.  This is a very fine elegant boat in need fo some refit work before being used.  There is a full and detailed survey carried out in April 2022 that details the exact condition and what work is required.

The boat comes with an excellent SBS road trailer that is ready to be towed away.

She would make a fine project for someone to return to steam power, or simply use her with the existing diesel engine.

21′ Sport Fishing Boat

Wooden Ships Comments on this 21′ Sport Fishing Boat

21’ Sport Fishing Boat to an American design built by Dartmouth boat builders B. & A. Pomeroy.

This is a demonstration model aimed at securing orders for new builds to the same design.

Built to an American design and launched in 2022, this is a demonstration model used by the builders who are offering further builds of the same design, constructed to an owners exact specification.

A new commission would be to exactly the same hull design, but the internal layout, engine and systems could all be specified by the owner to suit their needs.

The design is very interesting with a lot more internal space than any modern RIB, comfortable seating and excellent sea keeping characteristics.  The design of the hull makes her a stiff boat, responsive at speed and able to handle rough weather without concern.

Any enquiries for new build boats to this design will be passed to the builders who can discuss your requirements.

Price for a complete boat with engine is £55,000.  For a bare boat with no engine but everything else complete the price is £39,000.

Wooden Ships Comments on this 18′ Rowing Skiff

Clinker rowing skiff built to a very high standard and lightly used since completion.

Single rowing position with a rattan aft seat, a superbly elegant river boat in top class condition.

Built by a very skilled and enthusiastic amateur for his own use.  Clearly the boat has been afloat very little in her years and remains in excellent condition.

16′ McNulty Sailing Launch

Wooden Ships Comments on this 16′ McNulty Sailing Launch

Clinker sailing motor launch built by McNulty Boats in 1995.

In present ownership for 23 years, used extensively around the Solent and some trips further afield.

Very pretty boat with an inboard Beta diesel engine that has been recently serviced.  Unusually she has a standing lug rig and sets a decent sized sail.  She is not a racing boat and will not sail hard to windward, however with a free wind she will tramp along very nicely.  Dagger board fitted for use when sailing.

Comes with an all over cover and road trailer.

Christchurch Coot One Design

Wooden Ships Comments on this Christchurch Coot One Design

Christchurch Coot One Design built in 1937 by Charles Purbrook in Christchurch.

In present ownership for 20 years, she had a major refit around 2008 where most of the bottom planking was replaced.

The Coot was conceived by Charles Purbrook in 1936 who wanted to design and built himself a dinghy.  The first boat was bought before she was finished and he was asked to build another.  Before long the design took off and Purbrook moved to a yard on the banks of the Avon in Christchurch.  The boat became a local one Design and was raced in good numbers in the local area.

These are solid, stable and capable boats with a good amount of internal space.  This boat comes with a road trailer and cover.  She has been in regular use with a recent week of sailing in Salcombe, Devon.

Barrow Boat Sailing Pram Dinghy

Wooden Ships Comments on this Barrow Boat Sailing Pram Dinghy

8’ sailing pram dinghy built by the Barrow Boat Company, Norwich in 2003.

The Barrow Boats are so called because they have a small wheel at the boat and holes in the transom through which the oars are placed to create ‘wheelbarrow’ type handles enabling the boat to be wheeled around without a trolley.

This boat seems to have been used very little and is complete with rig and road trailer.   A super light dinghy that would suit a multitude of uses.

The hull weighs just 52kg so is eay to get on a roof rack and move around.  With the rig, oars ruder and dagger board, the whole set up is only 66kg.

Norfolk Oyster Sailing Dinghy

Wooden Ships Comments on this Norfolk Oyster Sailing Dinghy

Norfolk Oyster sailing dinghy designed by John Leather in 1959.  Professionally built for the current owner on licence from the designer, full signed plans are included with the sale.

Built by a Suffolk shipwright over a number of years and finished to a very good standard for the current owner.

Since completion the boat has been used for a 10 day holiday in Cornwall and kept ashore undercover ever since so could be considered in nearly new condition.

The boat is complete with rig, sails, cover and road trailer.  This is an excellent and very capable dinghy with space for 4 adults and able to take a bit of weather, ideal for dinghy cruising/exploring.  With a break back road trailer she is also pretty easy to launch and retrieve single handed on the right slipway.

Very smart and very elegant dinghy for sensible money.

Iain Oughtred Whilly Boat

Wooden Ships Comments on this Iain Oughtred Whilly Boat

Iain Oughtred Whilly Boat sailing skiff, one of several similar boats designed by Oughtred and inspired by the working boats of Shetland and Orkney.

These boats are tough, capable and good load carriers, as well as being fast under sail and oar.

This boat is constructed from glued marine plywood which makes her strong and light as well as being easy to maintain.  The boat is also easy to launch and recover single handed which makes using her a hassle free affair.  Can be sail single handed without a problem but also has space for 3 adults.

Complete with rig, road trailer and cover.

Electric River Launch

Wooden Ships Comments on this Electric River Launch

Iain Oughtred Grebe rowing boat, professionally built by a retired boat builder in 1996 for his own use but never launched.  Purchased by the current owner in 1998 and professionally converted into a motor launch with electric propulsion by installing a Bosch motor and a 2 blade propeller.  Subsequently she has been used extensively on inland rivers and proved to be a very easy to use boat.

This is an immensely simple boat, light and pretty, easy to use and very practical.

Electric launches are becoming more and more popular for river use, this boat will get the new owners afloat with minimal fuss and with far less expenditure than some of the newer electric river launches from large boatyards.

Complete with the whole electric drive, road trailer and oars.
